Nuclear spins as quantum memory in semiconductor nanostructures - NASA/ADS.

Recently, an ensemble of nuclear spins in a quantum dot have been proposed as a long-lived quantum memory. A quantum state of an electron spin in the dot can be faithfully transfered into nuclear spins through controlled hyperfine coupling. Here we study the decoherence of this memory due to nuclear spin dipolar coupling and inhomogeneous hyperfine interaction during the storage period. In particular, by performing spectroscopy on the nuclear spin, we find that it is coupled to a system consistent with two spin-1/2 nuclear spins. These results provide a pathway towards interacting spin ensembles, combining multiple long-lived quantum registers to a telecom-compatible quantum memory for future quantum repeater-based quantum.

Second, the intrinsic nitrogen nuclear spin was included as a quantum memory (22, 23). At 3 T, the spin relaxation time of the memory spin ( T 1 mem ) lengthens to ~260 s. With the use of this quantum memory, T 1 sensor is replaced by the much longer T 1 mem in Eq. 1 , yielding a potential maximal spectral resolution of ~1 mHz or 10 − 5 ppm. 2. The neural qubit—phosphorus nuclear-spin The nucleus of every element is characterized by a half-integer spin-magnitude (I = 0, 1 2,1 ···) and for I 6= 0 an associated magnetic dipole moment which precesses around magnetic fields at the nucleus [7]. These magnetic fields arise from nuclear magnetic moments of nearby atoms/ions. Nuclei.

In materials with only a small percentage of spinful isotopes, the long coherence times of nuclear spins have already been exploited to create a quantum memory. For example, quantum information. "The nuclear spin is much more immune to the environment," McCamey says.... So even if the electron itself loses its memory, its spin contents have been preserved via proxy. Here, we present experimental data on a quantum memory consisting of a single 13 C nuclear spin that is strongly coupled to the electron spin of a nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond. The strong hyperfine interaction of the nearest-neighbor carbon results in transfer times of 300 ns between the register qubit and the memory qubit, with an.

We further show that nuclear-spin polarization enables the use of well-known methods for initialization and long-time coherent storage of quantum states. The proposed nuclear-spin preparation protocol thus marks the first step towards an all-optically controlled integrated platform for quantum technology with TM defects in SiC.

Entangling sensor and memory qubit. We use the electron spin of a nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centre in diamond and the associated 14 N nuclear spin 14 to build a hybrid quantum sensor-memory pair (see. The LGM-30 Minuteman is an American land-based intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) in service with the Air Force Global Strike Command. As of 2021, the LGM-30G Minuteman III version is the only land-based ICBM in service in the United States and represents the land leg of the U.S. nuclear triad, along with the Trident submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) and nuclear weapons carried. Memory sensitivity with respect to NV initialization errors. (a) (Top) Entangling sequence performed on the NV electron spin while the nuclear spin is idling in a superposition state. (Bottom) Measured equatorial Bloch vector length as a function of the delay T between repumping pulse and microwave R x (π 2) rotation. We use t r = 2 μ s.

Quantum Register Based on Individual Electronic and Nuclear Spin Qubits.

Nuclear spins are an obvious candidate for implementing such a memory, because they tend to have extremely long spin lifetimes ( 1 – 3 ). To date, implementations of quantum logic or memory devices directly involving nuclear spins have used optical or microwave detection in systems such as the nitrogen vacancy center of diamond ( 4 – 6 ).

In 2002, three Harvard University physicists figured out that large ensembles of nuclear spins in a semiconductor quantum dot could be potential hosts for solid-state quantum memories, then. A system comprising a solid state lattice containing an electronic spin coupled to a nuclear spin; an optical excitation configuration which is arranged to generate first optical radiation to excite the electronic spin to emit output optical radiation without decoupling the electronic and nuclear spins; wherein the optical excitation configuration is further arranged to generate second optical.

An Electrically Accessible Nuclear Spin Memory Using.

Finally, we explored the coherence properties of the nuclear spin quantum memory. In contrast to the electron spin, which dephases on a time scale T 2e *∼1 μs for this NV center, the nuclear spin free precession signal persisted out to ∼0.5 ms (T 2n * = 495 ± 30 μs in Fig. 4A). Characteristic collapses and revivals in the data correspond. We theoretically consider the possibility of using solid state nuclear spins in a semiconductor nanostructure environment as long-lived, high-fidelity quantum memory. In particular, we calculate, in the limit of a strong applied magnetic field, the fidelity of P donor nuclear spins as a function of time in random bath environments of Si and GaAs, and the lifetime of excited intrinsic spins in. Thus, according our theory, the nuclear spin ensembles are the "mind-screen" with nuclear spins as its pixels, the neural membranes and proteins are the mind-screen and memory matrices, and the biologically available paramagnetic species such as O2 and NO are pixel-activating agents. Together, they form the neural substrates of consciousness.

Computer Spin Memory: Physicists Read Data Stored in Atomic Nuclei.

The suitability of the nuclear spin as a quantum memory element depends more critically on the nuclear coherence time, T2n, the measurement of which has now been made possible through the storage. The interesting bit is that they stored the data on the spin state of silicon nuclei, not electrons. Spintronics researchers from University College London, the University of Utah and Florida. Influence of Nuclear Spin Polarization on Quantum Wire Conductance by James A. Nesteroff, Yuriy V. Pershin, Vladimir Privman , 2004 Abstract — In this work, we study a possibility to measure the transverse and longitudinal relaxation times of a collection of polarized nuclear spins located in the region of a quantum wire via its conductance. Nitrogen vacancy (NV) center-based electron-nuclear spin register and CPMG pulse technique. (a) Schematic diagram of the NV-center system.NV-center has spin quantum number S = 1 electron spin and interacts with nearby 13 C nuclear spins via the hyperfine coupling. Two states of the electron spin, m s = 0 and m s =-1, were chosen, and microwave pulses were resonant to these two states.

Very recently, nuclear spin memory devices [32], [57], [58] and the indirect hyperfine interaction via electrons between nuclear spin qubits in semiconductor-based quantum computer proposals [33. The state is left in the nuclear spin on a timescale that is long compared with the electron decoherence time, and is then coherently transferred back to the electron spin, thus demonstrating the 31 P nuclear spin as a solid-state quantum memory. The overall store-readout fidelity is about 90 per cent, with the loss attributed to imperfect.

These nuclear spins serve as memory quantum bits. Figure 1 shows the experiment schematically. A single NV center is selected in a focused laser beam (see Fig. 1 a). All experiments are carried out at temperatures T ∼ 6 K such that the sample, its positioner as well as microwave coupling structures are mounted in a cryostat (Fig. 1 b).
